Photodisruptors

A photodisruptor is a Nd:YAG laser that uses short pulses of light to make tiny "explosions" on the eye tissue, creating micro-precise openings. It can be used to destroy secondary cataracts and to treat glaucoma by opening up the trabecular meshwork to restore fluid outflow.

How It Works

Photodisruptors use short pulses of light rather than long pulses resulting in a highly localized, brief increase in temperature. Also referred to as cold lasers, their effect during treatment is to strip the molecules of their electrons, causing the cells to breakdown into a plasma. There is no coagulation.
