Q: What does the Selecta II laser offer the ophthalmic surgeon?

A: The Selecta II offers true portability, via a clip-on, SLT Laser system; and the Laser Link is compatible with most convergent optics slit lamps.

SLT Therapy is clinically proven for first line, adjunct, repeat and replacement therapy in glaucoma patients. When used as primary therapy, SLT has a 93% success rate and a mean IOP reduction of 31%. 

Q: What clinical indication is the Selecta II cleared for by the FDA?

A: The Selecta II can perform Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT), which was cleared by the FDA in 2001 for the treatment and management of open angle glaucoma.

Q: What are the wavelengths of the aiming and treatment beams of the Selecta II

A: The Selecta II has a red 635nm (<5mW) He NE aiming beam; and a Q-switched frequency doubled 1064nm Nd:YAG, (532nm) diode-pumped solid state laser as its treatment beam.

Q: Is the Selecta II easy to transport?

A: Yes, The unique design of the unit’s laser-head makes it especially easy to attach and disconnect the system– allowing you to use your slit lamp as either a diagnostic tool, advanced laser delivery device or both. The Selecta II weighs 25 lbs (9.33 kg) excluding power supply, slit lamp and table.

Q: What is the energy output of the Selecta IIt laser system?

A: The Selecta II energy settings are from 0.3 mJ to 2.0 mJ.

Q: What accessories are optional when purchasing a Selecta II laser system?

A: The Lumenis 990 slit lamp can be purchased if you need slit lamp with convergent optics and a tonometer to attach the Selecta II’s laser link.

Q: Can I use the Selecta II on a BQ style lamp?

A: Yes, the Selecta II can be used on BQ style slit lamp. However, you will require a top mount Tonometer pin. This can be purchased from Lumenis using part number 3301-0018.

Q: What are the electrical requirements for the Selecta II laser system?

A: The Selecta II laser has a universal power supply: 120/230VAC, 50/60Hz, switchable input. It can therefore be plugged into a standard single phase electrical outlet.

Q: Does the Selecta II require special cooling?

A: No, the cooling of the Selecta II laser is via air convection.

Q: Do I have to change the illumination mirror on the slit lamp prior to using the Selecta II laser?

A: Yes, please replace the Diagnostic mirror on your slit lamp with the Laser mirror that comes with the Selecta II laser; prior to treating patients. This will avoid the appearance of a double aiming beam that can be confusing to the surgeon.
